In Zaljevski gusari, the search for Jean Lafitte’s treasure becomes a dangerous rescue mission. Pirate Barbe-en-Feu abducts Digging Bill and Jacques, hoping they can reveal where the fortune is hidden. Zagor must find a way into his inaccessible stronghold, deep among swamp reeds where every step may lead into an ambush.
The action unfolds within a struggle between rival pirates, but Zagor’s immediate concern is freeing his friends. While the treasure hunters treat other people as tools for obtaining their prize, he must assess the dangers and operate on terrain his enemy knows far better.
Moreno Burattini combines pirate adventure, treasure hunting and infiltration of an enemy hideout. The swamp landscape shapes the rescue: its cover offers concealment but also hides attackers and makes escape difficult. Suspense comes from the challenge of reaching the prisoners before their captors achieve their aims.
Alessandro Chiarolla illustrates the middle chapter of the trilogy begun in Ludens #100, Blago Jeana Lafittea. The storyline concludes in #102, Odredište Afrika, and also prepares the way for Zagor’s extended African adventures.
