Almost 50 years have passed since the publication of the first and so far the only manual "Newly illustrated home doctor for domestic animals", translated from German, intended for farmers, breeders and other animal lovers. Understandably, science in the field of veterinary medicine has advanced considerably since then. A number of infectious, invasive and other diseases were discovered, treatment methods were perfected, successful preventive measures were found against a number of very dangerous diseases that pass from animals to humans (zoonosis). The lack of a similar modern compendium prompted me to write the manual "Veterinarian at Home", which is primarily intended for breeders and lovers of animals, poultry and birds, but can also serve a wider range of readers, providing information on various diseases. It should be pointed out that with the publication of this book, the veterinarian is by no means redundant; on the contrary, one of the tasks of the manual is to introduce the owners and lovers of animals to diseases in a simple and comprehensible way so that they know how to call a veterinarian in time and thus help the animal or, in larger livestock production, avoid major material damages.
