Der Nachkriegsroman, der sogenannte einheimische Prosa ist der erste Teil der „Kurlan-Trilogie“ des kroatischen Dramatikers, Romanciers und Romanciers.

Die Handlung spielt Mitte der dreißiger Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts in der Region Cetina. In zwei Dörfern am Fuße des Berges Kamesnica und im nahegelegenen Sinj. Die Verschwörung basiert auf einem banalen Gerichtsverfahren, das von den Unterkurlanern eingeleitet wurde, weil der Esel Sivonja, der den Oberkurlanern gehörte, die Reben in ihrem Weinberg beschädigt hatte. Dies ist jedoch nur der Rahmen, in dem Weihnachten die Grausamkeit des Lebens im Steinbruch Kamešnica darstellt. Und die Rohheit des Charakters, die diese Wildnis geformt hat.
