Roman prati priču o futurističkom svijetu u kojem korporacije i tehnologija dominiraju životima ljudi. Glavni lik je znanstvenik koji radi na revolucionarnom projektu – stvaranju umjetnog izvora energije koji bi mogao trajno riješiti svjetske energetske probleme. Ovaj "svjetlosni izvor" trebao bi donijeti blagostanje čovječanstvu, no ubrzo se otkriva da njegove posljedice nisu onakve kakvima su se činile na početku.

Kako projekt napreduje, znanstvenik se suočava s moralnim dilemama, političkim pritiscima i ekološkim katastrofama koje proizlaze iz pretjerane ljudske pohlepe i ignoriranja prirodnih granica. Morgan na duhovit način prikazuje kako pohlepa i kratkovidnost korporativnog svijeta mogu ugroziti opstanak planeta.

Morganov roman poziva na promišljanje o odgovornosti čovječanstva prema prirodi i tehnologiji. Humorističnim tonom šalje ozbiljnu poruku o potrebi održivog razvoja i ravnoteže između napretka i očuvanja planeta.
