Pančatantra: u najstarijoj sačuvanoj recenziji Tantrakhjajika

Pančatantra je djelo klasične sanskrtske književnosti nastalo u razdoblju od 3. do 5. st. n. e. Po sačuvanim rukopisima i mnogobrojnim obradama djelo je kasnije poprimilo oblik popularne pučke knjige.

Najstarija sačuvana recenzija teksta Tantrakhjajika čiji se prijevod sa sanskrta objavljuje u ovom hrvatskom izdanju ukazuje na činjenicu da je u izvornom obliku tekst bio vrlo zahtjevan. Naslov Pančatantra pojavljuje se u većini mlađih obrada i ukazuje na formalno ustrojstvo – Petoknjižje. Naslov Tantrakhjajika upućuje na sadržaj – nauka o onome bitnome u umijeću upravljanja državom. Prijevod je načinjen na osnovi kritičkog izdanja Tantrakhjajika koje je pripremio Johannes Hertel i koje tiskano kao XIV. svezak Harvard Oriental Series iz 1925. godine.
