Each volume is usually hardbound and contains color illustrations depicting biblical scenes, with texts taken from the Bible and accompanied by analyses of the artwork.

It is from the second part of the Epistles of St. Paul, which features universal themes from Christian iconography such as salvation or the Last Judgment. The Last Judgment has inspired artists since the Middle Ages, and its depiction by Luca Signorelli in the cathedral of Orvieto is particularly notable. The Revelation, a frequent theme of Flemish painters, is known for its complex symbolism.
