The scientific separate from the JAZU publication (1952) brings Antun Barc's study "The Croatian Novel until Šenoa's Death", one of the fundamental works of Croatian literary historiography. The author analyzes the development of the Croatian novel from its beginnings to 1881, considering its main characteristics, thematic and stylistic determinants, and the contribution of the most important authors. Special attention is paid to August Šenoa and his role in shaping Croatian literature of the 19th century. The work is based on a systematic literary-historical analysis and represents a valuable source for the study of Croatian prose, literary criticism, and cultural history.
