Tiho, o tiho govori nam Cesarić

The poetry collection Tiho, o tiho govori nam Cesarić (published in 2023) presents a representative selection from the body of work of one of the 20th century's most beloved and significant Croatian poets. Taking its title from the evocative lines of his famous poem "Tiho, o tiho govori mi jesen" (Softly, Oh Softly Autumn Speaks to Me), the book gathers verses that uniquely blend simplicity of expression with deep emotion and philosophical reflection on the human condition. This edition includes anthology-worthy poems that have shaped generations of readers, such as "Slap" (The Waterfall), "Voćka poslije kiše" (Fruit Tree After the Rain), "Oblak" (The Cloud), "Balada iz predgrađa" (Ballad from the Suburbs), and "Pjesma o tami" (Song About Darkness). Cesarić’s poetic world spans a wide range of themes—from a pantheistic experience of nature, the changing seasons, and urban landscapes to social motifs and eternal questions regarding love, solitude, and transience. His verse—distinctively musical, rhythmic, and stripped of superfluous ornamentation—communicates directly with the reader. The collection is intended both for students (as part of required reading) and for all lovers of fine lyric poetry who wish to revisit the timeless verses of Croatian literature.
