Josip Adamček

Croatian historian (Vuka near Osijek, March 13, 1933 – Zagreb, December 25, 1995). He completed his studies in history and philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb (1959), where he received his doctorate in 1977. From 1961, he was an assistant, from 1978, an associate professor, and from 1983, a full professor at the Department of History at the same faculty. Studied agrarian relations and social movements of the peasantry in the Croatian north from the late Middle Ages to 1848. His main works are: The Peasant Revolt of 1573 (1968), an analysis of the well-known peasant revolt from the point of view of economic relations; Agrarian relations in Croatia from the middle of the 15th century. until the end of the XVII. century (1980), a comprehensive overview of social and economic relations in the early Croatian modern period; Revolts and resistance: peasant revolts in Croatia in the 17th century. century (1987), analysis of social movements of the Croatian peasantry. In collaboration with Ivan Kampuš, he published the material Censuses and Tax Calculations in Croatia in the XV and XVI Centuries (1976), and with a group of authors he edited the collection of sources of the Peasants' Revolt in Croatia in the XVII Century (1987). Since 1991, a regular member of HAZU. President of the Association of Historical Societies of Croatia (1977–81); head of the Department for Croatian History of the Center for Historical Sciences (1977–86). In 2009, the Memorial of Josip Adamček was published with a series of contributions by contemporary historians.
