Lajos Zilahy

Hungarian writer (Nagyszalonta, 27. III. 1891 – Novi Sad, 1. XII. 1974), graduated in law, worked as a lawyer; from the early 1920s he devoted himself entirely to literature. From 1947 he lived in the USA, and from the early 1970s until his death in Yugoslavia. His novels, in which he combines a romantic plot with a realistic narrative tradition and mild social criticism, have become popular all over the world. The most famous are: The Spring of Death (Halálos tavasz, 1922), Two Prisoners (Két fogoly, 1926), Revenge of Arms (A fegyverek visszanéznek, 1936), The Dukays (A Dukay család, 1968).
