Usually, the middle of the 8th century, 753 BC, is determined as the time of the foundation of Rome. May that year serve as a stronghold for us too. It is the first year of the Roman calendar, which counts the years since the foundation of the city of Rome, ab urbe condita. Archaeological findings from the latest era confirm a long-contradictory theory. Indeed, the remains of a bathhouse from the middle of the 8th century were found on the Palatine, that is, from the time when the first settlers settled in Great Greece and Sicily. The situation in Italy at that time was characterized by great contrasts. The area where Rome will be founded was ravaged by two great waves of invasion before the city was even founded. The first newcomers were of Indo-European origin and lived in a special type of settlement known as teramara. They mastered the technique of copper processing and burned their dead. They lived in trapezoidal villages, and sometimes the villages were built in swampy areas.
