The novel Stari dečki by Zvonimir Majdak, published in 1975, is a sequel to the cult novel Kužiš, stari moj and is part of his "prose in jeans", which is characterized by relaxed, Zagreb jargon mixed with a semi-Kajkavian style.
The action of the novel takes place during just one day in Gdańsk. The heroes of the novel are acquaintances who should arrive at the agreed time for a joint photo shoot, and according to the photo taken, their mutual friend will paint the Last Supper.
The novel is set during the French Revolution, more precisely during the Jacobin reign of terror, in the years after the execution of King Louis XVI, while Queen Marie Antoinette was imprisoned in the Temple prison.
