Saint Benedict is one of the fathers of Western culture and a spiritual great. He is the founder of the Benedictine order, one of the oldest orders in the Christian West. Pope Gregory the Great, his biographer and spiritual son, writes about him: "He was a man of honorable life with the name Benedict, which means Blessed with name and grace." It appeared silently on the stage of humanity fifteen centuries ago, but its appearance started the ages, raising generations and generations of new European peoples. His greatness and merit lies in the fact that he so permeated the European world with his ideas and works that his inspiration and momentum lived on for centuries. He left behind us a rich spiritual content, prayers, texts, and he presented the ideal of monastic life in his rules. Pope Paul VI. is St. Benedict was declared the patron saint of Europe because he significantly influenced her life.
