Selected newspaper columns of Milan Jajčinović

Milan was a journalist with character, broad and educated, inclusive, but also tough in defending his views. A political "opinion maker" who enjoyed controversies without shying away from the attacks of dissenters. With his attitude and professional strength, he proved himself day after day regardless of "external circumstances" and political systems, ruthlessly dispelling myths and the guilt imposed on the young Croatian state. In those most critical times, from the beginning of the nineties, Croatia could not get a better representative than him, an intellectual who educated it, defended it and admonished it with fatherly patience when it made mistakes. Dražen Klarić, editor-in-chief of "Večernji list". Two years after the death of Milan Jajčinović, this book of selected newspaper columns, which were published in "Večernji list", is being published, and for it we have chosen those columns that were published from the beginning of 2009 to the second half of 2017. The book is entitled "Political Checkerboard", exactly according to the name of his column in Večernjak, and the book mostly contains the texts of those columns. But Jajčinović also wrote comments outside of his regular weekly column. He wrote some comments on a daily basis, prompted by a certain event. And he also wrote broader analyses, especially in the field of history and culture. Milan was versatile in writing. He was interested in many areas, from politics to sports. This is evidenced not only by the names of the chapters in the book, but even more so by the titles of the texts. It is enough just to go through the content of the book, take a look at the titles, to understand the range of topics that Milan covered in his texts. Many of them are anthological, timeless, read as if they were written today.
