Noćni film

Marisha Pessl

Night Movie (2013) is a postmodern psychological thriller that explores the boundaries of reality, obsession, and dark secrets. The book's appeal lies in its atmosphere and unpredictability, making Night Movie an unforgettable experience for fans of thril

The story follows investigative journalist Scott McGrath, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious death of 24-year-old Ashley Cordova, a talented pianist and daughter of cult horror director Stanislas Cordova. Found dead in an abandoned Manhattan warehouse, her death is officially ruled a suicide, but McGrath believes it was a murder. Driven by a desire for truth, revenge, and curiosity, he begins an investigation that draws him into the hypnotic, eerie world of Cordova, a director who has not been seen in public for decades and whose disturbing films are shown in secret screenings.

With the help of two unlikely allies, Nora and Hopper, McGrath uncovers the Cordova family’s layered secrets, intertwined with rumors of the occult, black magic, and sinister rituals. The novel masterfully combines elements of horror, mystery, and detective story, enriched by a multimedia approach—fictional newspaper articles, police reports, photographs, and websites—that make reading interactive. Pessl skillfully builds tension, bringing the reader to the edge of reality, where the question arises whether Cordova's films are fiction or something much darker.
