Čakavsko narječje (fonologija)

Čakavsko narječje (fonologija)

Milan Moguš

The Čakavian languages are spread mainly on the Adriatic coast and islands, and in Lika and Pokuplje they penetrate quite deep into the mainland.

Čakavian dialect, one of the three dialects (along with Kajkavian and Štokavian) of the Croatian language. The name comes from the interrogative pronoun ča, the genitive most often of česa, which today is no longer spoken in the entire area of the Čakavian dialect: on the easternmost Čakavian islands Korčula and Lastovo, in the Čakavian part of Pelješac and in many sections of the narrow Čakavian coastal belt, they say št (or šta ), and in Istria around the upper reaches of the Mirna and in the part of the Čakavian valleys south of Kupa kaj. Although a good part of the Chakavian language has accepted these Štokavian or Kajkavian independent pronoun forms, in many such languages the Chakavian form is still used with prepositions (such as zač, poč, etc.).
