Ratnici iz staroga i srednjega vijeka: Spartanski hopliti

Ratnici iz staroga i srednjega vijeka: Spartanski hopliti

Louise Park, Timothy Love

Spartan hoplites were the elite warriors of ancient Greece, known for their discipline, courage and military skill. Hoplites were heavy foot soldiers armed with a spear (dory), a short sword (xiphos) and a large round shield (aspis).

They wore bronze armored vests, helmets and leg guards. The Spartans perfected the phalanx tactic, a formation in which hoplites stood shoulder to shoulder, creating an impenetrable wall of shields and spears. This formation was crucial in many battles, including the famous battles of Thermopylae and Plataea. Spartan hoplites were known for their rigorous military training that began in early childhood and lasted throughout their lives. Their military skill and discipline made them one of the most formidable military powers in the ancient world.
