Buharinove posljednje godine

Buharinove posljednje godine

Roj Medvedev

In his book Bukharin's Last Years, Roy Medvedev reconstructs the tragic fate of Nikolai Bukharin, one of the most prominent Bolshevik intellectuals and political leaders, who became a victim of Stalin's purges.

The work is based on available archival documents, memoirs and personal testimonies, providing a detailed insight into the period between 1936 and 1938.

Medvedev shows how Bukharin, although already marginalized politically, still tried to operate within the system, trying to avoid direct conflict with Stalin. Despite his loyalty to the revolution and the party leadership, Bukharin was accused of counter-revolutionary activities, espionage and conspiracy. The trial that followed was staged, and confessions were extracted under pressure and threats. The author describes in detail Bukharin's ethical dilemmas, psychological struggles and his deep commitment to Marxism, despite his loss of faith in the government of the time.

The book is both a historical analysis and a moral indictment of the Stalinist regime. Medvedev revalues Bukharin's role in Soviet history and emphasizes the importance of understanding the tragedy of intellectuals in totalitarian systems.
