O duhovima i utvarama
The book explores spirits, ghosts, poltergeists, and other mysterious apparitions. It presents well-known cases from England and the efforts of ghost hunters to determine whether such phenomena are real or fake.
Hans Biedermann’s On Spirits and Apparitions is a richly illustrated book dedicated to spirits, ghosts, and other enigmatic phenomena that have stirred fear and curiosity for centuries. The author presents a wide range of unusual phenomena: headless monks, phantom hitchhikers, the dead allegedly rising from their graves, ghost ships, and noisy poltergeists, as well as old castles, rectories, and churches believed to be haunted.
One of the book’s central questions is what ghosts actually are and how they originate. Are they the spirits of the deceased returning to the living, or do natural or psychological explanations lie behind such experiences? Biedermann describes the work of "ghost hunters" who investigate sites of alleged sightings, gather testimonies, and attempt to distinguish hoaxes from phenomena that lack a satisfactory explanation.
The book also addresses how people try to rid themselves of unwanted ghostly visitations. It examines exorcism, traditional rituals, parapsychological approaches, and various interpretations of paranormal phenomena. A special place is given to famous cases of ghostly apparitions in England—a country whose ancient castles and folklore are deeply intertwined with tales of the supernatural. Thus, the work blends historical cases, folklore, parapsychology, and the investigation of the unexplained into a compelling chronicle of the world of spirits and apparitions.
