Sabrana djela III: Gospođica

Sabrana djela III: Gospođica

Ivo Andrić

"Miss" is a novel by Ivo Andrić, originally published in 1945. The work belongs to the so-called Bosnian trilogy, together with the novels "On the Drina bridge" and "Travnička kronika".

The novel explores human relationships, materialism and psychological aspects of life through the story of the main character – Rajka Radaković, an unmarried woman known for her stinginess and isolation.

The action takes place in Sarajevo and follows the life of Rajka, the daughter of a wealthy merchant. Raised in an environment dominated by money and greed, Rajka adopts values that define her as a stingy, cold and emotionally closed person. After the death of her parents, she withdraws more and more into herself, obsessed with material security and accumulating wealth.

The novel deeply analyzes social circumstances, patriarchal relations and Rajka's inner struggle, showing how the obsession with money can destroy interpersonal relationships and emotional life. The symbolism and psychological characterization of the main character make this novel special.

Through stylistically rich language and in-depth analysis of characters, Andrić creates a universal story about human weakness and destiny. "Miss" is a powerful work that still resonates with readers today because of its contemporary messages about human flaws and social pressures.
