Krležini evropski obzori: Djelo u komparativnom kontekstu
The first edition of the book, for which Žmegač received two significant awards: "Vladimir Nazor" in 1987 and the Krležina Fund award in 1990.
The author does not start from classification terms, but from literary works, looking for traces of European literary and thought experience in individual texts, not interested in "influences" but only in Krleža's ability to subject different traditions to the power of his expression. Three thematic circles are at the center of consideration: Krleža's understanding of artistic originality and, in this connection, his relationship to modernism, then the problem of the artist and aesthetic existence in general, and finally his ideas about "man" and about "marionette", that is, his anthropological and cultural-historical typology.
