Da sol ne obljutavi

Da sol ne obljutavi

Bono Zvonimir Šagi

This book is a collection of the author's works published in various publications in the period from 1993 to 1998. The book deals with socio-ethical issues of the transition processes in Croatia.

The metaphorical title of the book comes from the Gospel and the task that Jesus gave us to be salt as his witnesses. "Salt heals and keeps you healthy, but it also burns" (p. 5). In order for the values of the Gospel to come alive, a heated and open discourse on concrete social problems is needed. By concretizing the theological approach to the social problems we face, the author warns us that the book raises more new questions than it offers answers. In this sense, the central question is the mission of the Church in the concrete Croatian society, and how what the Church preaches and teaches will come to life in its members, who are otherwise citizens in society with other citizens. Discussing concrete problems and people, the author has opted for dialogical openness. Šagi expresses his feeling and commitment to the poor, the more vulnerable in society and to the common good, thus defining his position as a working theologian. The book is divided into two chapters: Catholicism and the Formation of Civil Society and Christian Social Discourse in Post-Communism.
