Ion L. Idriess

"The Coral Sea Bounty Hunters" is an adventure novel by Australian writer Ion L. Idriess, first published in 1940.

It is based on the true events of 1834 when the merchant ship Charles Eaton sank in the Coral Sea. Two boys, Jack Ireland and Will D'Oyly, survived the shipwreck and spent several years among the indigenous tribes of the Torres Strait Islands.

The natives accepted them, believing them to be the reincarnations of lost souls, calling them "Lamari". The boys adopted local customs, learned to hunt, fish and participate in the daily life of the tribe. The book describes in detail their adventures, including the dangers, cultural differences and adaptation to a new way of life. After several years, the British ship Isabella found them and returned them to European civilization, where they faced the challenges of reintegration.

This book is one of the most famous works of Ion Idriess, who has written more than 50 books inspired by Australian history and culture.
