Cirkus

Cirkus

Ivo Balentović

This very prolific Croatian writer has treated a rare topic in domestic literature in an attractive way, sufficiently entering the world he is addressing and empathetically defining himself towards his characters.

The book contains short stories that address life, human destinies and transience, often through the symbolism of the circus as a metaphor for temporary splendor and hidden melancholy. Balentović, known for his lyrical and patriotic style, explores the complex emotions of the characters, their inner struggles and their connection to the Croatian region, especially Slavonia and Istria. The book reflects his characteristic prose style, imbued with humanism and a sense of the details of everyday life, often with an emphasis on nostalgia and social change. This work is part of his extensive literary oeuvre, which includes some thirty books, including short stories, poems and travelogues.
