Sine moj, sine

Sine moj, sine

Howard Spring

This is a family saga filled with love, ambition, sacrifice and tragedy, and its focus is on the relationship between father and son - a relationship that is at once deeply loving and fatally twisted.

The main character is William Essex, a poor young man who rises to become a successful writer through his own efforts and talent. Having met the ambitious businessman Henry Cert, the two of them together forge paths from poverty to social prominence. Both have sons — William's son Oliver and Henry's son Leni — and they hope that their sons will inherit their ideals. But while William is a loyal, gentle and idealistic father, Oliver grows into a selfish, arrogant and emotionally immature man. William is blinded by his love for his son and does not see how, by protecting him from the consequences and justifying his actions, he is actually doing him harm. The novel depicts the gradual disintegration of relationships and the tragedy of parental illusion, where love becomes a means of destruction.
