Verity

Colleen Hoover

Verity, a psychological thriller by Colleen Hoover, follows Lowen Ashleigh, a young writer in financial trouble who gets an unusual opportunity. Hoover masterfully builds a claustrophobic atmosphere, combining romantic and thriller elements.

Jeremy Crawford, husband of famous author Verity Crawford, hires her to finish Verity's unfinished books in the popular series, as Verity is in a coma after an accident. Lowen arrives at their Vermont home, where he is confronted with an eerie atmosphere and dark secrets.

In Verity's office, Lowen finds her manuscript, an autobiography titled Verity, which reveals shocking details about her life, including the disturbing events surrounding the tragic deaths of her twins. The manuscript portrays Verity as manipulative and cruel, causing Lowen to question her perception of reality. As Lowen investigates further, he begins to suspect that Verity may not be in a coma, but rather acting out, and her presence in the house becomes increasingly sinister.

At the same time, Lowen grows closer to Jeremy, further complicating her feelings and decisions. Tensions mount as Lowen tries to discern what is truth and what is fiction, confronting moral dilemmas and her own fears. Unexpected twists and an ambiguous ending leave readers with more questions than answers, making Verity a tense and provocative read.
