This is the story of modern cowboys from rural Wyoming.

Although, unfortunately, not very well known in our country, Annie Proulx is one of the most distinguished contemporary American authors and the winner of numerous literary awards. For example, she won the Pulitzer Prize in 1994 for her novel Shipping News, and the stories from this collection have been awarded a total of nine prestigious awards! Of course, the most famous is "Brokeback Mountain", which, in the manner of the music industry, we have already published separately as an extremely successful "hit-single" (we believe that no one missed the full-length "video" by Ang Lee). And, as the reader could see for "Brokeback", one thing is certain for this entire collection of stories about modern cowboys from rural Wyoming: these are stories about cowboys, but they are by no means typical cowboy stories - such as, for example, are found in our edition of "Cowboy Stories" by Elmore Leonard. In contrast, here there is no conflict on the line of good - evil, and the heroes are by no means heroes, but little people constrained by their everyday misfortunes, often strange and bizarre, which gives the stories additional charm and impact. Cowboy icon John Wayne would probably turn in his grave if he heard about such cowboys, but the author accepts them for who they are and, despite their rawness, rudeness and violence, describes them with sympathy: "The people of Wyoming are sensitive, hot-blooded and quick, eager for physical contact. Maybe it's because they spend so much time with cattle, but people here always shake hands, pat each other on the shoulder, cheer, comfort and support each other. This instinct also applies to anger, lightning slaps with the back of the hand, pushing to throw you off balance, elbowing, pulling and grabbing, choking, but also to more serious things that end in murder, because that sometimes happens..."
