Kršćanstvo i New Age duhovnosti: sličnosti i suprotnosti

Stanko Jambrek

In this key study, Stanko Jambrek, Croatian theologian and biblical scholar, analyzes the relationship between biblical Christianity and the New Age movement, emphasizing the similarities in attraction for the spiritually-seeking, but also the fundamental

The book, expanded from his earlier work New Age and Christianity (1998), stems from concerns about the spiritual state of Croatian Christians, offering a critical look at occult influences in contemporary society.

The first part explores man's search for meaning and the satisfaction of basic needs (love, security, identity), which often leads to Christianity or the New Age. Jambrek defines key concepts: biblical Christianity as a personal relationship with God through Christ, and New Age as a syncretic movement synthesizing Eastern mysticism, occultism, and Western esotericism.

The second part traces the history of New Age from the 19th century (theosophy of Blavatsky, anthroposophy of Steiner) to contemporary forms (holistic medicine, channeling, reincarnation), emphasizing its appeal in the postmodern crisis of faith.

The central part (third and fourth) focuses on insurmountable contradictions: New Age promotes self-divinity (man as part of divine energy, without sin), while Christianity emphasizes God's sovereignty, sin, and salvation by grace. The similarities are superficial – both offer spiritual growth and healing – but New Age relativizes truth, while Christianity insists on the absolute Bible. The author warns of the dangers: New Age can lead to occult addiction and spiritual delusion.

The fifth part brings testimonies of former New Age followers (yoga, astrology, New Age therapies) who converted to Christianity, describing liberation through a personal encounter with Christ.

The sixth part summarizes the comparison in tables (e.g. God, man, salvation) and a glossary of terms (chakra, aura, gnosticism).

The book ends with a bibliography and a call to discernment: Christians must distinguish truth from falsehood in an era of spiritual pluralism. As a practical guide, it helps believers navigate New Age influences, promoting authentic faith.
