Ponoćne uspomene

Ponoćne uspomene

Sidney Sheldon

Sequel to the best-selling The Other Side of Midnight (1973). The story takes place in the 1980s, ten years after Catherine Douglas survived the revenge of her husband Noelle and lover Larry, and received a huge inheritance.

Catherine now lives in seclusion in a monastery in Greece, suffering from amnesia and nightmares. The powerful Constantin Demiris, a billionaire and shipowner (who in the first novel ordered the murder of Larry and Noelle, but let Catherine live), arrives in Athens. Demiris is obsessed with the past: he feels guilt, but also a desire to finish what he started. Under the pretext of charity, he takes Catherine under his wing, employs her in his firm and slowly draws her into a dangerous game.

A new character appears in London – lawyer Napoleon Chotas and his client, a hitman who knows too much. In parallel, we follow Spyros Melis, Demiris’ brother-in-law who wants to take over the empire, and the young actress Noelle (who has the same name as her dead lover – a symbolic circle).

The novel is a classic Sheldon thriller: fast-paced, short chapters, constant twists, sex, revenge and exotic locations (Athens, London, Paris, the Caribbean). The last 100 pages are pure madness – revelations, false identities, murders and courtroom drama leading to a shocking finale in the court of Athens.
