How the search for Balkan war criminals became the world's most successful manhunt

The Executioner's Trail is a gripping chronicle of the search and capture of Balkan war criminals indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. Borger tells the story of how Radovan Karadžić and Ratko Mladić - now on trial in The Hague - were finally found, and he describes the intriguing story of the capture of Slobodan Milošević, the president of Yugoslavia and the first head of state to be tried by an international tribunal for war crimes. Based on interviews with former special forces, intelligence officers and investigators from a dozen countries - most of whom are speaking out about their involvement for the first time - the book reconstructs a fourteen-year manhunt that was carried out in near-total secrecy. After indicting the worst war criminals in post-Nazi Europe, the Hague tribunal eventually managed to capture every single one of the 161 suspects on its list, an unprecedented feat in the political and military history of the world.
