Kako je kasno bilo, kako kasno

Kako je kasno bilo, kako kasno

James Kelman

Regarding James Kelman's novel How Late It Was, How Late (1946), Janja Ciglar Žanić wrote in the Lexicon of Foreign Writers that it is a work of distinctive Beckettian mannerisms.

Uncompromisingly written and experimental in many ways, the novel "How Late It Was, How Late", which owes much to the modernist tradition of the novel, primarily Kafkaesque and Orwellian, shows why James Kelman (born 1946) is certainly one of the most important contemporary Scottish novelists. In 1995, this novel was awarded the prestigious Booker Prize, which Croatian readers can now read in the VBZ edition and in the excellent translation by Selma Dimitrijević.
