Irske narodne priče

The Irish Folktales collection brings together a selection of legends, myths, and fairy tales from Ireland's rich oral tradition—from heroes and priests to fairies and ghosts—bringing together Celtic imagination, Christian motifs, and folk wisdom.

The collection of Irish Folktales, selected by Nives Zenko and illustrated by Zoran Cvetković, presents a valuable insight into the rich and diverse Irish oral literature. These stories have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries, and they intertwine Celtic mythology, Christian symbolism and folk imagination imbued with humor, wisdom and mild irony.

The first part of the collection contains legends about heroes and warriors, such as The Birth of Finn MacCumhail and The Adventures of Conle, which depict courage, loyalty and destiny as fundamental determinants of the Celtic world. These are stories about heroes who surpass human limits and become symbols of strength and honor.

The second part consists of folk and fairy tales about fairies, dwarves, ghosts, wizards and unusual creatures, such as Jack and the Little Man, Cats are Strange Creatures and The Strange Shilling. They express the belief in the hidden forces of nature and the supernatural that has always been present in Irish culture.

The collection is given special value by stories with Christian motifs, such as Saint Patrick and Crom Dubh and The True Saint, in which old pagan beliefs merge with new spiritual messages. These stories show how faith and gentleness of heart are considered a greater power than the sword and magic.

Nives Zenko has skillfully selected and adapted the texts to retain the spirit of the original storytelling, and Cvetković's illustrations evoke the mysterious beauty of Irish landscapes and mythical creatures.

The collection of Irish Folktales is not only a book of myths and legends, but also a testimony to the spirit of a people who, despite poverty and adversity, have preserved the richness of their imagination, humor and belief in miracles throughout the centuries. It reminds us that storytelling is not only entertainment, but also a way to preserve memory, identity and hope for new generations.
