Svete igre 1-2

Svete igre 1-2

Vikram Chandra

Vikram Chandra, an Indian, born in New Delhi but raised in Bombay (today's Mumbai), wrote a masterpiece about the dark world of organized crime and police corruption in Mumbai.

The intricate and never-ending intertwining of organized crime, power struggles at every level, espionage rivalries, and countless languages, nationalities, religious sects, and economic powerhouses create an unparalleled tapestry of this rising world power—and provide the perfect backdrop for the story of two unforgettable characters. All of them are playing the Great Game, an age-old competition for power and influence—weaving the threads of a sacred game whose product is history itself. The Sacred Game, by Vikram Chandra, a professor of creative writing at UC Berkeley, took seven years to develop, ultimately becoming a seminal work of contemporary Indian literature, described by many as a worthy successor to The Godfather—crossed with Crime and Punishment and the hit series The Sopranos. This epic thriller has been translated into fifteen languages, was a finalist for the Commonwealth Writers Award for Best Book, won the prestigious Hutch Crossword Book Award for Best Work of Fiction in English, and was named the India Book of the Decade.
