Oštrica brijača

W. Somerset Maugham

The novel "The Razor's Edge" follows the life of Larry Darrell, a young American who, after his experiences in World War I, begins to feel lost and dissatisfied with the superficial lifestyle of a wealthy society.

Unlike his friends who strive for money, success and social status, Larry wants to find a deeper meaning in life. He rejects a secure job and marriage to Isabel Bradley, a girl who loves him, because he believes that material life is not enough for true happiness. Larry travels to Europe and India, studies philosophy and religion and undergoes a spiritual quest. In India, he finds inner peace and a different perspective on life. Opposite him are characters who represent wealth, ambition and social conventions. The narrator of the novel is Somerset Maugham himself, who observes the fates of the characters and their life choices.
