Priručnik iseljeniku za Južnu Ameriku
A practical guide intended for Croatian emigrants heading to South America, with useful advice. A rare and extremely interesting practical guide published in Buenos Aires in 1927, and then in a second, updated edition in 1929 in Zagreb.
The book was written with the aim of being a real helper for thousands of Croats and Yugoslavs who left in great waves to earn a living in Argentina, Brazil and other South American countries. The author describes in a simple, clear and cordial way what an emigrant can expect on a long journey by ship, how to prepare, what to look out for upon arrival and how to find their way in a new environment.
Through vivid descriptions and practical experiences, the reader gets a picture of living conditions, work opportunities, climate, health challenges and everyday life in distant countries. Marković pays special attention to psychological adaptation and preserving dignity in a new environment, which makes the book go beyond an ordinary manual and become a kind of humane advisor for those leaving their homeland.
This is an exceptionally rare edition of Croatian emigrant literature. The copies from 1927 and 1929 are considered a true bibliographic rarity and are highly valued among collectors who deal with migration history, diaspora and interwar books. It represents an important historical document about the mass emigration from Croatia to South America.
