A. G. Matoš: In memoriam o 20-godišnjici pjesnikove smrti
A memorial collection published in 1934 by Ljubo Wiesner (Wiesner's Library, vol. 1). The editorial and authorial lead was Antun Barac, with contributions from Milan Ogrizović, Tin Ujević, Ljubo Weisner and other Croatian writers and critics.
The collection was published on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the death of Antun Gustav Matoš (1914–1934) and represents an important attempt to evaluate his oeuvre in the interwar period. It contains analyses of Matoš's lyrics, prose, essays and criticism, memories of the poet and assessments of his place in Croatian literature. Of particular note are Barč's contributions, which see Matoš as a modernist, aesthete and one of the most influential Croatian writers of the early 20th century.
The work belongs to the Wiesner Library series, which gathered significant literary and cultural publications. The style of the contributions is serious, literary-historical, with an emphasis on Matoš's modernity, European spirit, patriotism and aesthetic criteria. The collection reflects the effort to permanently include Matoš, who was controversial during his lifetime, in the canon of Croatian literature.
Today, this edition is a sought-after antiquarian rarity, especially copies in good condition with original covers. It has high bibliographical and collector's value for lovers of Matoš's work, and for scholars of Croatian modern and interwar literary criticism. It represents an important document of Matoš's reception in the 1930s.
