Pjesnička proza

Silvije Strahimir Kranjčević

"Poetic Prose" by Silvij Strahimir Kranjčević (1912) is a posthumous selection of his prose works. Edited by Julije Benešić and Vladimir Gudel, with a foreword by Milan Marjanović. Contains selected stories and essays.

The collection brings a selection of Kranjčević's prose, which until then had remained mostly unpublished or scattered in magazines. The most significant texts are: Wisdom from Urvine Mountain, Mućak, Čimo se ljudi toše, Priča iz pradavnih dani and Dajte i daće vam se.

Although Kranjčević is first and foremost a great poet, his prose carries the same strong, poetic and reflective style – full of thoughtful depth, symbolism and criticism of society. That is why it is called poetic prose. The works are marked by philosophical and existential tones, often with biblical and mythological motifs, typical of Kranjčević's poetics.

This edition is of great significance because it is the first systematic presentation of Kranjčević's prose after his untimely death. Milan Marjanović's foreword is important for the reception of the poet's work in that period. Today, the original 1912 edition is a sought-after antiquarian rarity — it rarely appears on the market, and copies in good condition with preserved covers are highly prized. It represents an important part of the overall understanding of one of the greatest Croatian modern poets.
