"U čarima strasti" by Pavle M. Rakoš is a collection of short stories and prose writings published in Osijek at the beginning of the 20th century. The book opens with the poem "Pokojnoj ženi", which gives the work a personal and emotional tone, while the rest of the collection consists of short stories such as "Višnja", "Ona", "Ljubav male švelje", "Don Nune", "Nikodem", "Zaza", "Savinka" and others.
The central theme of the collection is love, passion, longing and complex interpersonal relationships. Rakoš depicts characters who face emotional dilemmas, disappointments, memories and moral decisions. His stories often talk about the transience of feelings, unrequited loves and the conflict between personal desires and social expectations. In addition to the theme of love, motifs of loneliness, loss and the everyday life of ordinary people also appear.
The author writes in a simple and accessible style, with an emphasis on the characters' inner states and emotional atmosphere. Many of the stories were originally published in magazines and newspapers, which gives the collection a diverse character. "In the Magic of Passion" is an example of Croatian narrative prose from the interwar period and demonstrates Rakoš's interest in the psychology of feelings and intimate human destiny.
