Druga čitanka za niže pučke škole u Hrvatskoj i Slavoniji
The Second Textbook for Lower Elementary Schools (1920) is a school textbook that develops reading skills, moral values, and basic knowledge of lower grade students through literary, educational, and patriotic texts.
The second reader for lower elementary schools, prepared by Dr. Sigismund Čajkovac, is intended for students in lower grades of elementary schools and represents a valuable example of teaching literature from the early 20th century.
The reader contained literary, educational and educational texts adapted to children's age. Through poems, short stories, descriptions of nature, historical sketches and texts from everyday life, students acquired the skills of reading, understanding and correct expression. Special emphasis was placed on developing moral values, diligence, honesty, love for family and homeland and respect for work and community.
The work reflects the educational and social goals of the time in which it was created, immediately after the First World War and the creation of the new state union. Today it represents a significant source for research into the history of education, pedagogy and children's literature and provides insight into the content and methods of teaching in Croatian elementary schools at the beginning of the 20th century.
