Peti znanstveni sabor Slavonije i Baranje, sv. 1

Peti znanstveni sabor Slavonije i Baranje, sv. 1

The Fifth Scientific Congress of Slavonia and Baranja, Vol. 1, brings together papers on Slavonia-Baranja history under Turkish rule, cultural and educational development, and literary, linguistic, and health heritage.

The Fifth Scientific Congress of Slavonia and Baranja, Vol. 1 is a collection of works dedicated to the history, culture, education, health, literature and language of Slavonia and Baranja, with a special emphasis on the period of Turkish rule and the time after liberation. According to the content, the first thematic block deals with the Ottoman period: military incursions, administration, Ottoman cadastral lists, economic conditions, episcopal organization, cartographic sources and the processes of liberation of Slavonia. This opens up a broad historical overview of political, social and spatial changes in the region from the mid-16th to the end of the 17th century.

The second important set of works is dedicated to culture and education in the post-Turkish period. It examines the Turks and cultural life in Slavonia, the development of cities and settlements, monasteries as spiritual and cultural centers, the first cultural and educational sparks after liberation and oriental elements in Slavonian folk music. In addition, the collection also includes contributions on health conditions in the 18th century.

Works on literature and language also have a significant place: the beginnings of Croatian literature after liberation from the Turks, foreign words in Slavonian writers of the 18th century, Turkicisms in Slavonian grammars, bibliographical and phraseological contributions, and the study of sermon and religious literature. The collection thus represents a valuable interdisciplinary overview of the historical and cultural identity of Slavonia and Baranja.
