U glib
As a writer with a highly developed social sense, he described all social classes and all aspects of Croatian social life in the second half of the 19th century.
He was the first to systematically analyze the decline of the aristocracy and the consequences of the initial accumulation of capital on the economic and moral level; he was the first to approach the world of the poor, beggars, the homeless, the lumpenproletariat, hungry students... He created a series of anthological short stories in which the main motifs are hunger, poverty and disease, trying to convincingly connect sociological facts with individual human destinies.
