Morgen ist die Ewigkeit

Morgen ist die Ewigkeit

Gwen Bristow

A touching drama by American writer and journalist Gwen Bristow about a woman who believes her husband was killed in World War I, builds a new life, and then confronts the past.

Elizabeth receives news that her husband has been killed in World War I. Devastated, she moves away and builds a new life: she marries a successful man connected to the Hollywood film industry, has children and a seemingly happy existence. Years later, in the midst of World War II, a mysterious, deformed German refugee and screenwriter Erich Kessler enters her circle.

Elizabeth gradually realizes that this man is her first husband, whom she believed to be dead. The encounter with the past shakes her present, raising questions of love, loyalty, identity and sacrifice. Bristow masterfully combines personal drama with the historical context of two world wars.

The novel is emotional, tense and humanly warm – a story about how the past never completely disappears and how a person must face the truth in order to move on. Popular and made into a film in 1946 with Claudette Colbert and Orson Welles.
