"Bet Me" is an extremely popular, humorous and award-winning romance novel by American author Jennifer Crusie. The story follows Minerva "Minie" Dobbs, a thirty-year-old woman who does not believe in fairy tales, happy endings or the slimness that her mother constantly imposes on her, and Calvin Morrisey, a charming and successful man who avoids any serious commitment. The plot begins in a bar when Minie accidentally overhears a conversation between her ex-boyfriend and Calvin. In order to emerge the winner of a bizarre bet, Calvin agrees to invite Minie to dinner, not suspecting that Minie has also made her own bet with her friends. What was supposed to be just one casual and disastrous evening turns into a series of unpredictable, fun and passionate encounters. Strong sparks fly between the two, but both hide their true motives, trying in vain to stay at a safe distance. Through the interference of nosy friends, ex-partners, family pressures, and one cat with character, Minie and Cal must realize that true feelings are much more important than any winning bet.
