The book The End of the Presidency presents a detailed documentation of one of the most dramatic periods in the political history of the United States of America – the Watergate affair and the forced resignation of President Richard Nixon in 1974.
This work, prepared by reporters at The New York Times, is based on years of investigative reporting and provides a comprehensive account of the events that shook the American political scene.
The book is structured as a chronological overview of key events from 1968 to 1974, including the election of Nixon to the presidency, the escalation of the Watergate affair, revelations of abuses of power within the White House, and the eventual resignation of the president. Special emphasis was placed on the role of the media, judiciary and political institutions in exposing scandals and preserving democratic principles.
In addition to the textual content, the book also contains a rich collection of photographs documenting the key moments and actors of the affair, providing the reader with a visual insight into the atmosphere of that turbulent period. It was published in 1974 by the Zagreb publishing house Trvalnost, and the Croatian edition includes 515 pages, including 60 pages of illustrations.
The End of the Presidency remains a significant work for anyone who wants to understand the mechanisms of political accountability, the role of the media in a democratic society, and the importance of government transparency.
