Gimpel luda

Gimpel luda

Isaac Bashevis Singer

Singer's tendency towards mysticism, grotesque, folklore and eroticism is also expressed in this collection of short stories. The characters are subject to strong passions, and the real intertwines with the imaginary.

Heroes are mostly tragic personalities, because they live with restrained desires, unattainable aspirations, against their wishes, devoid of hope. Gimpel luda certainly belongs to the very top of the world narrative prose. The book is written vividly, ironically, warmly, thoughtfully, and it is quite certain that it will not leave any reader indifferent.
