Gradotvorci II / Városteremtők II: Subotički stambeni objekti od baroka do moderne

Gradotvorci II / Városteremtők II: Subotički stambeni objekti od baroka do moderne

Gordana Prčić-Vujnović, Viktorija Aladžić, Mirko Grlica

Two years after the publication of the first book Gradotvorci I, the authors publish the second part, which completes the presentation of the rich stock of residential architecture in Subotica, created in the time span from Baroque to modern.

With the new book, the authors, using the same principles and methodology, rounded off the research of the interesting architectural phenomenon of Subotica, certainly one of the cities with the richest architectural heritage in the country. The collaboration of the author, two architects and a historian, as in the first part, brought richer and more notable results. The book provides descriptions of individual buildings as a real small architectural and historical study of seventy buildings that rely on the same number of contributions published in Gradovorci I. The methodologically correct procedure is enriched with historical accounts of the owner's families, while the sections on architectural issues are given clearly and transparently with analytical and comparative context. A certain qualitative shift is noticeable in the very visual identity and organization of printed material. Significantly more plans, old and new photos were published in a larger format, which raised the value and quality of the publication even more. As the connective tissue of both volumes, at the end of the second part, there is a directory of persons mentioned in the books. Thus, through two books dedicated to its city builders, Subotica found itself at the very top of Serbian and Vojvodina cities in terms of the historical treatment of its architectural heritage.
