Gospođa Bovari

Gospođa Bovari

Gustave Flaubert

This is an excellent romantic story about a failed marriage, adultery without passion and the suicide of a young woman who fantasized about an exciting life, waiting in vain for a change in the small-town everyday life.

Emma Rouault is the beautiful daughter of a village landowner. She spent her youth and education in a monastery where she received her education. At the same time, she secretly enjoyed reading romance novels, imagining how her life would be full of fatal and romantic loves. But when she marries the disreputable but kind-hearted country doctor Charles Bovary, she will realize that the gap between her expectations and the boredom of everyday life is too great. The eager adventurer will engage in several love affairs. Charles still loves her and tries to do everything to make her happy. But Emma's desire for a lover, beautiful dresses and partying leads her into ever-increasing debts. At some point, they will find themselves in front of a wall...
