Zima na jugu

Zima na jugu

Norbert Gstrein

Winter in the south perfectly evokes the atmosphere of fear and war, desperate people in hopeless situations. Gstrein creates incredibly accurate and poignant portraits of people facing their fears and longings.

One of the most exciting writers of the German-speaking world, Norbert Gstrein, deals with the fate of a Croatian family in his novel Winter in the South. After the Second World War, the father, an Ustasha, left his wife and daughter in Austria and went to Argentina. Their lives will come together again 45 years later, in 1991, at the beginning of the war in Croatia. The daughter, dissatisfied with her marriage to a well-known Austrian left-wing journalist, goes to Zagreb, hoping for changes. At the same time, on the other side of the world, in Buenos Aires, her father, whom she doesn't even know if he survived the war, dreams of returning to his homeland while his young wife makes love to his bodyguard... In Zagreb at the dawn of war, when the city is full of adventurers, young soldiers and returnees, one day an ad appears in which a father, who has returned and lives in Esplanade, is looking for a daughter. Will they meet, will their lives change for the better, which they so desperately want?
