Dick Bruna

Dick Bruna's illustrations and picture books are world famous. The secret of their success is simplicity. By reducing the image, they retain their essence and become pictograms.

Strong primary colors attract the attention of children, especially the youngest. Dick Bruna was inspired by the famous Dutch style of painting (de stijl). The colors he uses are specially mixed for him - they are known throughout the world as "Dick Bruna colors". The gaze of his characters is directed directly towards the viewer. The figures radiate openness and sincerity. Dick Bruna's works encourage children's imagination and individuality. The text of the picture book is written in verses and is easily remembered and enriches the children's vocabulary with new terms. These are simple educational picture books that conquer all generations.

Dick Bruna created the first picture book, Miffy, in 1955. Inspired by Matisse's work, he developed his own minimalist style. With clear black lines and clean, vivid colors, he created a little bunny that will become famous all over the world. Miffy is not the only character in Dick Bruna's picture books. There are also Poppy, Boris and Barbara and Snuffy. Each character has a clearly expressed character, and they all have their own stories and adventures. The picture frames are square in shape, they are sturdy and easy for small hands to hold. The covers are hard bound to withstand children's browsing and reading for longer. Illustrations are the heart of picture books. Stories always take place close to home - most often they are everyday situations, and children can invent their own stories. From them, children can learn numbers, letters, colors, animal names, etc. Even older children love Miffy and her friends.
