Oliver Twist ili život općinskog djeteta
The main theme of the novel is the London orphans who, as we find out through the chapters, often end up in the dark parts of the city as criminals.
The vicious circle in which such children are marked immediately after birth is very clear; they are treated like scum from their earliest childhood while at the same time they are denied love and real care that many never feel in their lives. Thus, when they grow up, orphans very often do not know the difference between good and evil, and their empty stomachs will agree to anything just to be filled nicely at least once in their life.
